Building Liberia From Scratch

Like many West African nations, Liberia has suffered through years of horrific civil war. The country’s infrastructure was shattered and the people mired in poverty. Liberia is on the mend now, but the peace remains tenuous, held together by UN troops and international aid.

We recently caught up with Sweden’s Magnus Jörgel, who has worked as a senior advisor to Liberia’s Defense Ministry since 2008. He spoke to us about the struggles of nation building and what kind of lasting help the international community can give a country like Liberia. Check out the first part of our interview below.
